While there is evidence to suggest the U.S. economy has gone from worse to bad, the road from bad to stabilizing to improving to good remains a long one. And, between the still dysfunctional credit markets, the oh so stressful question that remains the U.S. banking system, a labor market that is providing less and less support for consumer spending, and a growing array of government interventions, bailouts, lending facilities, and stimulus plans that, frankly, we’re beginning to lose track of, there remain plenty of chances for the economy to veer sharply off course.
